Percy Stephens Cup Round 2
Grampound
went into this game having
beaten St Blazey 3rds in the
last round 4-2 and are unbeaten
in the league and cups so far.
It was a very bizarre start to
the game with St Dominick Res.
only having 7 starting players
as 4 were running late.
Grampound looked to take an
early advantage but due to time
wasting and trying to force it
the game was 0-0 until St
Dominick got all 11 players on
the pitch. On about 15 minutes
the St Dominick keeper sliced a
goal kick which Kiall Maugham
brought down really well about
35 yards out and a brilliant
first touch took him through 1
on 1 with the goalkeeper and he
calmly slotted the ball past the
keeper. 1-0 the G. Our second of
the game come from new signing
Brendan Hitchens who looked a
danger all game with his hold up
play and short sprints. Brendan
made it 2-0 with a tidy finish.
St Dominick then put a high
floated ball into the penalty
area where keeper Mark
#butterfingers # let slip
through his hands to give away a
goal and let the visitors back
into the game. 2-1
Our third
came from a brilliant high press
on the right hand side from
Mikey Cowls of all players,
winning the ball brilliantly and
delivering a decent cross which
fell to Matt Dark on the edge of
the penalty box who scored one
of his trademark finishes and a
contender for goal of the season
with an outside of the right
boot into the top corner. What a
strike to put Grampound 3-1 up.
Grampound looked very
comfortable throughout the game
and never really looked in
danger however this was far from
our best performance but as they
say sometimes you have to win
ugly when you’re not playing
well. Grampound wrapped up the
game in the second half when the
ball was pinging around in the
area in the air with Hitchens
being an absolute pest and this
paid off when it dropped to him
on his right foot and being the
poacher he is he somehow managed
to find the corner to put the
game well and truly to bed.
St
Dominick managed to get a late
consolation with a brilliant
strike from the edge of the box
and gave keeper Mark Roch no
chance in goal to make the game
4-2.
With 7
players missing from our squad
and bringing in 3 new signings
in Hitchens, Mike Welfare and
Lewis Ellis, as manager I was
very happy with the win and
going through into the next
round to hopefully play Tregony
at home which would be a great
game for all involved.
Back into
league action next week with a
home game against St Neot. Bring
it on.
Stay
calm, stay humble and take the 3
points but in this occasion go
into the hat for the next one!
