Match Report
Grampound 2-0 Padstow Utd
1 February 2025
St Piran League
Grampound looked the more
accomplished team in the first half,
dominating possession and giving
Padstow few opportunities around the
danger area. A few half chances came
and went for Grampound before midway
through the half when Grampound's
top scorer Gavin Boon collected the
ball about 25 yards out from goal.
He burst through a group of
defenders and his left foot finish
crashed in from the underside of the
crossbar from 12 yards. It was
a well-deserved lead and it looked
as if Grampound were going to have a
fairly comfortable ride into the
quarter final. It did not really
work out like that however, although
Grampound extended the lead just
minutes after half time.
Brandon Trudgeon was fouled close in
to the goal and Kiall Maugham
converted the resulting spot kick.
More goals should have come but did
not and Grampound had to defend well
in the last 20 minutes of the game
as Padstow threw men forward in
search of a way back into the game.
In the end, only one real chance for
Padstow appeared with a scramble in
Grampound'd 6-yard box.
Stand-in goalkeeper Dan Riley,
helping out after a very long injury
spell, made a good save from close
range and Grampound were plesed to
have won and with a clean sheet.
