Match Report
Newquay 6-3 Grampound Veterans
6th October 2019
Cornwall Veterans League
Playing against a strong wind never suits Grampound Vets and the team made it worse by conceding two early goals, the first from a sloppy back pass and the second through an unnecessary penalty. With Grampound continually struggling to clear the ball and to make simple passes it was inevitable that Newquay would cash in and they did, scoring three more against a fragile defence before the break.
The second half, however, was a different story. Now with the wind behind them, Grampound began to exert some pressure of their own and although the hosts scored another early in the half, the half belonged to the underdogs. Ricky O'Neill scored his first goal for the club with a good low strike to give Grampound some heart and Matt Skews's floated cross found its way into the net for a second. Quite a few reasonable chances were created as the half proceeded but it was not until near the end that Martin Baker forced his way through to give the score a little respectability.
