Match Report
North Petherwin Res. 2-1 Grampound
14th September 2019
Duchy League Division 3
Grampound's first half display was a bit of a horror show as the home midfield found time and space to put Grampound under almost continuous pressure. A desperate tackle on 10 minutes upended a home striker and Ryan Henderson made a good save with his trailing foot as he dived to save the resultant penalty. This let-off did not rouse a sleepy Grampound though and the team continued to be second to everything. It was no real surprise when N.Petherwin opened the scoring and then doubled their lead soon after although both goals could be put down to slack defending. Grampound were glad to get back into the changing rooms at half time where some strong words were exchanged.
The second half were a different story with Grampound taking the initiative and pushing the home side back. Although not at their best, Grampound pressurised the home players and forced themselves back into the game. Just before the hour mark, Dylan Fox battled his way into the N. Petherwin penalty area and despite a clattering he managed to lob the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and into the far corner to reduce the arrears. Grampound continued to press and reduced the hosts to breakaways although a really good chance did not really materialise. At 90 minutes, Grampound felt that they deserved a point, certainly after their first half battering, but the home side held on for the win.
