Match Report
Southgate Seniors 7-1 Grampound
26th October 2019
Cornwall Junior Cup Round 2
Grampound went into this cup-tie as underdogs with their opponents having a 100% record in their division above Grampound's and having the regular goalkeeper and others being late cry-offs the game looked as if it would be a tough one. However, Grampound bossed the opening half hour, playing the ball around nicely on the artificial surface. The turning point came went the home side took the lead against the run of play and from that time Southgate's confidence flowed and Grampound only occasionally looked dangerous again.
The second half started well for Grampound when Dylan Fox was upended by the home goalkeeper and Dean Dunn stepped up to equalise from the penalty spot. Within minute, Grampound had gone behind again after giving the ball away in their own half and the score quickly became 3-1 when a cross found its way into the far corner. With a couple of injuries making life even more difficult for Grampound, Southgate scored almost at will in the last 20 minutes or so with the end of the game being unrecognisable from the beginning.
