Boscastle Res. 5-2 Grampound

18th January 2020

Duchy League Cup Group D

Grampound will be very disappointed with this result and performance after a very bright start.  Grampound opened the scoring on 12 minutes after a clear handball by a home defender in his penalty area. Everyone on the field thought it to be a clear and obvious penalty and the referee initially gave it, having a clear view from less than 10 yards.  However, the home linesman told the referee that the offence was just outside the penalty box and the referee made his first mistake of far too many during the afternoon and went with the lino.  The whole Grampound team were aggrieved but, fortunately, Dean Dunn put things right when he ran up and smacked the free kick into the corner of the net to give Grampound a very deserved lead.  Grampound looked in charge at this time and extended the lead when Ryan Morcom's low shot beat the keeper.  That was as good as it got although Grampound did have chances to extend the lead further.  Gradually, the home side got a little more control and two quick goals brought them level before the break.  It could have been worse but Ryan Henderson made a spectacular stop to prevent a home header entering the net.

After the break, the home side looked the more likely to take the tie and deserved to win, showing a bit more desire than Grampound in what was always a tight game, and scoring 3 times to put the tie beyond the visitors and to claim top spot in the Group D table.
