Grampound 6-3 St Mawgan Res.

31st August 2019

Duchy League Division 3

Grampound started well against a side that came determined to not concede but they did so after concerted pressure saw the goalkeeper push the ball out to Dan Smith 25 yards out and he carefully planted the ball into the net for the opener on 7 minutes. Grampound now took the game to the visitors and it was only a matter of time before the next goal came, even though St Mawgan looked dangerous on several occasions. Martin Baker scored a good goal to extend the lead when he slanted a low shot from 20 yards into the far low corner and Grampound were now cruising, only for a corner against them evade everyone but ended up being hit against Matt Skews but adjudged to be over the goal line.  Sam Blount scored the goal of the game shortly before the break when he finished well as he pushed into the penalty area and slipped the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Two goals up at the break looked promising but a soft goal was scored by St Mawgan when their striker shrugged off a weak defensive challenge and finished from 3 yards to reduce the arrears to 2-3.  Grampound again extended their leading margin when Martin Baker managed to get on the end of a long through ball and headed past the visiting keeper to make the score 4-2 in Grampound's favour.  Dean Dunn scored directly from a free kick to extend the lead once again and Danny Stephens got on the end of a low cross from the right to tap home from close range.

St Mawgan had the final say when they reduced the arrears to 6-3 when a striker drifted past a few lukewarm tackles but Grampound ended the game pleased to win again and to be top of the league.
